University of Cincinnati Receives $5 Million for Arena Renovation

The University of Cincinnati has announced a $5 million gift from alumni Margaret ('71) and Michael ('73) Valentine in support of a renovation of its Fifth Third Arena.

The largest gift to date for the $87 million project will help fund a range of proposed improvements, including a new 360-degree seating bowl, a high-definition scoreboard, ribbon boards, a new sound system, an LED lighting system, an upper-level concourse, and a new main entrance and plaza. The facility also will feature upgraded locker rooms and expanded premium seating options. Built in 1989 and originally named the Myrl H. Shoemaker Center, the Fifth Third Arena is home to the university's men's and women's basketball and volleyball teams.

"Mike and I are grateful that we are able to give back to our alma mater; to make a difference by investing in students and faculty," said Margaret Valentine. "Sports provide much to an academic institution such as UC. Great facilities serve all students. The Fifth Third Arena renovation will enhance and transform the student-athlete and game-day experience."
