University of Haifa Receives $10 Million From Lorry Lokey

The University of Haifa has announced a $10 million gift from philanthropist Lorry I. Lokey for construction of a new downtown campus centered in the city's port area.

The gift will support the university's plan to create a multi-campus institution with locations in Haifa and across northern Israel, providing easier access for students and adding vitality to the city and surrounding region. An early Giving Pledge signatory, Lokey, who founded the Business Wire news service, has given nearly $800 million to schools and colleges in the United States and Israel.

"Less than two years ago, the university described an aggressive growth plan that included additional faculties and buildings throughout Haifa and the north; a downtown campus is a key component of that plan." said University of Haifa president Ron Robin. "We are grateful to Mr. Lokey for helping us to realize this mission. This latest contribution is indicative of the university's recent success, and I am excited to share the details with the entire community at our upcoming board of governors meeting. Through Mr. Lokey's generosity, we will exponentially increase the university's regional and national impact."
