University of Vermont Business School Receives $20 Million

The University of Vermont has announced a $20 million gift from the Grossman Family Foundation to the UVM school of business.

The gift from alumnus Steven Grossman ('61) will fund three endowed chairs — the Steven Grossman Chairs in Entrepreneurship, Finance, and Sustainable Business — as well as resources that support teaching and program priorities at the school, which will be renamed the Grossman School of Business. The largest single gift in the university's 224-year history is part of a $500 million fundraising campaign in support of endowed professorships, graduate fellowships, and undergraduate scholarships; strategic investments in human health, environmental, humanities, and STEM programs; and facilities upgrades. The campaign has raised nearly $248 million to date.

Grossman was the CEO of Southern Container Corp., a family business, until the company was sold in 2008. He serves on the UVM Foundation board and Foundation Leadership Council and is a former member of the Business School Board of Advisors.

"In the spirit that I was taught and believe in, I have always given to this university," said Grossman. "I had some of the best years of my life here. I received what I felt was an excellent education, and I have always had a warm spot in my heart for UVM."
