Selected from a pool of more than twenty thousand nominations submitted via the social networking site, ten human service organizations were awarded $10,000 each to provide food to children in their respective communities. Grant recipients include Bags of Hope Central Florida (Longwood, Florida), Kids' Food Basket (Grand Rapids, Michigan), and Three Square Food Bank (Las Vegas, Nevada).
During the twelve-day campaign, Walmart will award a total of $1.5 million to a hundred and forty organizations around the country working to provide assistance to those in need. The recipients will be spotlighted daily on the company's Facebook page.
"The number of nominations from around the country this year was truly extraordinary — nearly four times as many nominations as last year's campaign," said Walmart Foundation president Sylvia Mathews Burwell. "We were inspired by the support from thousands of people around the country who took the time to nominate organizations they felt needed assistance this holiday season. By helping us to identify those organizations doing great work, we will be able to make an impact in the local communities that need it most."
