Asian American Arts Alliance

Asian American Arts Alliance
Founded: 1983

Mission: To strengthen Asian-American arts and cultural groups through resource sharing, collaboration, and community-building activities.

About the Organization: Founded in 1983 in New York City, the Asian American Arts Alliance is a diverse coalition of artists, organizations, and arts supporters who believe that working together as a pan-ethnic, multidisciplinary community is essential to the development of artists and arts organizations and the creation of meaningful, innovative opportunities for civic engagement in society. To that end, the organization works to help individual artists and arts organizations access and share resources and builds community through programs that encourage peer-learning, collaboration, and professional development.

Current Programs: The organization's programs include a bi-monthly Town Hall that brings together artists and arts organizations to network, form strategic and creative alliances, and market and promote their programs, events, and services; the Alliance Arts Exchange, a three-session professional development workshop designed to teach artists how to gain access to and cultivate curators, artistic directors, and editors; and a4Hub, an interactive online platform through which member artists can promote their work, connect with potential collaborators, and/or share opportunities and resources. The organization also offers fellowships and awards, including Van Lier Fellowships in Music Performance and Composition, the Jadin Wong Award for an Emerging Asian American Choreographer, and the Wai Look Award for Outstanding Services to the Arts.

In addition, the organization advocates for the voices of Asian-American artists at the local, regional, and national levels, and facilitates strategic partnerships between and among Asian-American artists, arts organizations, the business community, and government.

Website: Visitors to the Asian American Arts Alliance site can learn more about the organization's history, check out an events calendar, apply for fellowships and awards, and/or visit the discussion forum to learn about other opportunities.
