Homes for Our Troops

Homes for Our Troops
Founded: 2004

Mission:
To help rebuild the lives of severely injured veterans through the gift of a high-quality, specially adapted home.

About the Organization:
Founded in 2004, Homes for Our Troops works to help veterans who have returned from Iraq or Afghanistan with severe injuries by providing them with customized homes at no cost. The organization secures funding, building materials, and professional labor and coordinates the building process, which ends with a home that provides a deserving veteran with maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live as independently as possible.

Current Programs:
The organization's New Home Program provides newly constructed, specially adapted homes to veterans who have been severely injured in a theater of combat since September 11, 2001; are retired or in the process of medical retirement from military service; have received a letter of eligibility for the VA Specially Adapted Housing grant program; and accept the responsibility of home ownership and have the resources to maintain a home.

Web Site:
Visitors to the site can read stories of veterans rebuilding their lives; view videos of veterans who have received the gift of a home from Homes for Our Troops; browse project highlights; or view an interactive map of new, in-progress, and completed projects across the country. Veterans can fill out an online form to request assistance, while others can learn how to support the organization by volunteering for a project, hosting a fundraiser, and/or making a donation.

Funding:
Homes for Our Troops receives support from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
