Mission: To provide a comprehensive range of programs for service members, veterans, and military families focused on transition, health and wellness, peer engagement, and connection to community resources.
About the Organization: Founded in 2006 by military families at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Hope for the Warriors provides a full cycle of care with the goal of restoring a sense of self, family, and hope to post-9/11 service members and their families. The organization, which has offices in Illinois, North Carolina, New York, Texas, and Virginia, focuses on transition services, health and wellness, community development and engagement, and sports and recreation.
Current Programs: Hope for the Warriors' transition services programs include Above and Beyond, a career-readiness program that provides peer-mentored assistance with resume writing and interviewing skills, as well as scholarship programs for military spouses and caregivers. The organization's programs in the area of health and wellness include critical care coordination (casework assistance and referrals as well as financial support for combat-injured service members, veterans, and their families); clinical support services (short-term counseling); family resilience services (referrals and admissions assistance for those seeking inpatient psychiatric services for post-traumatic stress disorder, mild traumatic brain injury, and associated disorders, as well as travel assistance and family counseling); and caregiver support services (online support groups and wellness workshops for those caring for physically or psychologically wounded service members or veterans).
Hope for the Warriors' community development and engagement programs work to grant a Warrior's Wish, such as access to adaptive equipment or accessible housing for the severely injured, and host events with volunteers aimed at bringing together military communities and their supporters to raise funds and awareness. And the organization's Sports and recreation programs include Run for the Warriors and Team Hope for the Warriors, which provides athletes of all abilities the opportunity to compete in endurance events.
Website: Visitors to the Hope for the Warriors site can learn more about its programs, sign up for updates, or keep abreast of developments via the organization's blog.
