PBS Learning Media

PBS Learning Media

Mission: To provide essential education resources for learners of all ages.

Background: PBS Learning Media, a partnership between PBS and the WGBH Educational Foundation, provides free and direct access to thousands of classroom-ready, curriculum-targeted digital resources while working to improve teacher effectiveness and student achievement. The resources housed on the site are aligned with Common Core and national and state standards and include videos and interactives, as well as audio, documents, and in-depth lesson plans. The site is available to all educators, pre-K through grade 12, and include resources related to the many genres and disciplines PBS is known for — from science programs and documentaries to news and public affairs, history, and the arts. In 2017, PBS LearningMedia integrated many of its modules with platforms such as Google Classroom, Clever, and Remind, making the site compatible with some of the most popular tools used by teachers. The site also includes content from PBS KIDS related to important foundational early learning skills, literacy, STEM subjects, and social-emotional development.

Outstanding Web Features: The easy-to-use site offers a variety of flexible tools and enriched media, enabling teachers to produce high-quality learning experiences for their students. Visitors to the site can browse content offerings by standardsgrade levelsubject area, and collection and can unlock additional features, including a teacher dashboard, roster and assignment functionality, and interactive lessons, by registering on the site. After a recent redesign, the site includes enhanced user experiences that provide quick access to relevant resources; daily features focused on timely content; and thousands of new resources supporting core curricular topics. Once engaged with a subject, educators can download subject-specific materials, share them to Google Classroom, assign them to their class directly, or share them with other classes and colleagues through an app, via email, or on social media. Visitors also will find links to the PBS.org education blog, where they can learn more about upcoming events and other education-related news.
