The mission of the Lenny Zakim Fund is to listen to those most impacted by inequity and provide the funding, essential resources, and support they need to create lasting change and advance social, economic, and racial justice.
To that end, the fund currently is accepting applications from grassroots organizations located in eastern Massachusetts for its 2020 Grant Cycle.
Capacity-building, and general operating grants will be awarded to organizations working to improve educational opportunities for children, youth and immigrants; promote positive youth development and prevent violence; promote social and economic justice and human and civil rights; and serve people facing medical challenges and/or with physical or cognitive disabilities.
Grants will range from between $1,000 and $20,000, with the median grant approximately $9,700.
Priority is given to small, grassroots organizations with limited ability to raise other funds. While there is no formal budget or staff size cutoff, the median annual budget for grantees in 2018 was $138,000.
The fund almost exclusively supports programs in eastern Massachusetts and requests that if an organization’s budget is nearing or over $350,000, it call the office to explore whether or not there may be a fit.
The fund is hosting grant informational calls on June 20, July 10, July 24, and August 9, 2019. New and new cycle grantees are required to attend a call before they fill out an application.
See the Lenny Zakim Fund website for complete program guidelines and application instructions.
