Burton D. Morgan Foundation Seeks Proposals From Collegiate Changemakers

Founded in 1967 by entrepreneur and philanthropist Burt Morgan, the mission of the Burton D. Morgan Foundation is to champion the entrepreneurial spirit in Northeast Ohio, contribute to a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem, and serve as a leader in the field of entrepreneurship education. The foundation pursues its mission through grantmaking in support of Youth, Collegiate, and Adult Entrepreneurship; regional ecosystem building to provide strong networks for startups and scale-ups; and  knowledge sharing bolstered by its research arm, the Entrepreneurship Education Experiment.

The foundation currently is accepting proposals for Changemaker Grants, a new initiative of the Morgan Scout Fund, a collaborative effort between JumpStart and the foundation to connect campus entrepreneurship programs to the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The fund was established in 2019 to encourage proactive and innovative solutions to gaps in the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Under its umbrella, Changemaker Grants will be awarded in support of programs, projects, and research efforts that address gaps in collegiate entrepreneurship in an innovative way. Higher education faculty and staff in the region often are visionaries, and many have ideas with the potential to change collegiate entrepreneurship for the better but lack the resources to test them. The aim of the Changemaker Grants program is to support experimentation in pursuit of bold, inventive, entrepreneurial goals.

While proposals may address any number of areas, the foundation is keenly interested in pathways initiatives — that is, work that bridges the transitions between the youth, collegiate, and adult spaces. It is anticipated that five grants of up to $10,000 each will be awarded.

Faculty and/or staff from any Northeast Ohio college or university with registered 501(c)3 status are eligible to apply. Proposals will be accepted through September 1, 2019, with winners to be announced in October.
