The Durham Arts Council is a private nonprofit dedicated to supporting the arts in Durham and the Triangle Region of North Carolina.
To that end, the council is inviting applications for its Emerging Artists Program. Through the program, grants of up to $1,500 will be awarded to developing or established professional artists in the North Carolina counties of Chatham, Durham, Granville, Orange, or Person in support of a project that advances their careers. Artist categories eligible for support include crafts, dance, drama, film and video, installation, literature, music, painting and drawing, photography, printmaking/mixed media, and sculpture. Projects must be completed by December 31, 2020.
In the past, grants have been awarded to cover the costs of promotion/presentation, travel, services, supplies, and training.
To be eligible, applicants must be an individual artist (not a company, group, or ensemble) who has resided in Chatham, Durham, Granville, Orange, or Person county for at least a year immediately prior to the application deadline. Applicant also must be at least 18 years of age and cannot be currently enrolled in a degree or certificate program in her/his art form at the time of the application deadline.
See the Durham Arts Council website for complete program guidelines, application instructions, and a list of previous grant recipients.
