The American Academy of Periodontology Foundation works to improve the periodontal and general health of the public through support for research and education.
To that end, the organization welcomes applications for the AAP Foundation Fellowship program. Through the program, fellowships of $3,5000 will be awarded to periodontists in private practice who have an interest in teaching either full- or part-time to cover the cost of tuition for the institute's Program for Dental School Faculty. The program provides periodontists with the opportunity to learn about teaching and best practices, the academic environment, and career opportunities, with a focus on helping them gain competencies in teaching and other academic skills in the context of career planning.
The fellowship awards four days of training at dental schools, with additional opportunities for expanded virtual experiences. The real-life context for learning provides for large and small group sessions, interactive exercises, case-based and problem-based learning, and peer observation of teaching, as well as mentored rotations with dental school faculty.
See the American Academy of Periodontology website for complete program guidelines and application instructions.
