The Strong Foundation for Environmental Values awards grants in support of projects and initiatives that instill an ecological ethic in the individual and communities and that encourage grassroots environmental action.
To that end, one-year grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded in support of environmental projects in Northern California, the Central Valley, and the Sierra Nevada, including the entire California-Oregon Klamath River watershed and the watersheds that arise in the Sierras and terminate in Nevada's terminal lakes. The foundation's definition of Northern California extends from the Oregon border in the north down to and ending at the San Luis Obispo, Ventura, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino county lines in the south.
Projects can involve environmental and conservation efforts, eco-spirituality, grassroots action, environmental education, capacity building, citizen participation, collaboration, land acquisition, and/or planning and training. Climate change programs at the community level are also encouraged.
To be eligible, applications must be considered tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
See the Strong Foundation website for complete program guidelines, information about previous grants awarded, and application instructions.
