Since 1990, the International Women's Media Foundation has worked to unleash the potential of women journalists to transform the global news media. To advance this mission, the IWMF is seeking 2017 nominations for its 28th annual Courage in Journalism and Lifetime Achievement Awards.
1) Courage in Journalism Awards: Since 1990, the Courage in Journalism Awards have honored women journalists who demonstrate extraordinary strength of character in pursuing their profession under difficult or dangerous circumstances such as war and conflict, censorship, and legal threats. Previous Courage Award winners include Khadija Ismayilova of Azerbaijan, who risked blackmail and imprisonment to cover government corruption; and Adela Navarro Bello of Mexico, who led a team of reporters to expose organized crime in spite of death threats.
2) Lifetime Achievement Award: This annual award honors female journalists who have a pioneering spirit and whose accomplishments have paved the way for future generations of women in the media.
Nominees may be based in any country and work in any medium, but their primary profession must be journalism. Lifetime Achievement Award candidates can be either a working or retired female journalist.
See the IWMF website for complete program guidelines, information about previous winners, and nomination instructions.
