Museums Alaska Accepting Applications for Art Acquisition Fund

The mission of Museums Alaska is to support an association of Alaska museum professionals and volunteers in order to provide opportunities for the improvement of museum and cultural center services in Alaska and to enhance public understanding of the purposes and functions of Alaska’s museums and cultural centers. As part of this mission, the association is accepting applications for its Art Acquisition Fund.

The purpose of the fund is to encourage museums in Alaska to collect the work of accomplished Alaska artists for their collections and support living, practicing Alaska artists through these acquisitions. In 2017, grants of up to $35,000 will be awarded for the purchase of artwork by a living, established Alaska artist. Preference will be given to works by Alaskan artists residing in Alaska. In exceptional cases, the current works of accomplished Alaska artists residing outside the state may be considered.

To be eligible, applicants must be an Alaska museum or Alaska Native cultural center; be recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; have a history or tradition of collecting or exhibiting art; and be able to store and care for all works purchased.

See the Museums Alaska website for complete program guidelines and application instructions.
