The Astraea Foundation for Lesbian Justice supports lesbian, trans*, intersex and LGBTQI groups that promote racial, economic and gender justice and mobilize communities to challenge oppression and claim their rights. The foundation supports groups in the United States, primarily led by LGBTQI people of color, and groups across the globe by providing flexible general support. Because social change takes time, Astraea aims to build long-term partnerships with organizations.
The foundation is accepting Letters of Intent through its Astraea's International Fund, which supports LGBTQI groups working to advance progressive social change, address oppression based on sexual orientation and/or gender identity and expression, and promote racial, economic and gender justice. Grants will range between $5,000 and $30,000 per year.
To be eligible, applicants must be based in Africa, Asia/the Pacific, Eastern Europe/Commonwealth of Independent States, Latin America/the Caribbean, or the Middle East; be led by and/or for an LGBTQI individual; be doing work toward long-term social change on issues affecting LGBTQI people and/or people who are penalized, persecuted, or harassed for their gender identity, gender expression, and/or sexual orientation; be a governmental organization, nonprofit organization, or the equivalent with an organizational budget of $500,000 or less; and have been active for at least one year at the time of proposal submission.
Letters of Intent must be received no later than July 31, 2017. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit a full application.
See the Astraea Foundation website for complete program guidelines and application procedures.
