The American Honda Foundation was established by American Honda Motor Co., Inc. to commemorate its twenty-fifth anniversary in the United States and to show its appreciation of America's support through the years. The foundation is guided by its mission to help meet the needs of American society in the areas of youth and scientific education while strategically assisting communities in deriving long-term benefits from those efforts.
To advance this mission, the foundation engages in grantmaking that reflects the basic tenets, beliefs, and philosophies of Honda companies, which are characterized by the following qualities: imaginative, creative, youthful, forward-thinking, scientific, humanistic, and innovative. One-year grants of up to $75,000 will be awarded to youth education projects with a specific focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects and the environment.
To be eligible, applicants must be a nonprofit charitable organization classified as a 501(c)(3) public charity by the Internal Revenue Service, or a public school district, private/public elementary, or secondary school. If an organization's gross revenue is $500,000 or more, it must also be able to provide two years of audited financial statements examined by an independent CPA. (If an organization's gross revenue is less than $500,000 and it does not have audited financial statements, it may submit two years of financial statements accompanied by an independent CPA's review report instead.)
Beware of email and text scams: Fraudulent emails and texts claiming to be from the American Honda Foundation are targeting individuals stating they have been awarded a large grant and requesting administrative or handling fees to receive the grant. The American Honda Foundation has an in-depth online grant application process and does not request any type of fees. If you receive a communication that appears to be from the American Honda Foundation requesting any type of payment, or a communication that seems suspicious, please disregard the communication and notify us at firstname.lastname@example.org or (310) 781-4091.
See the American Honda Foundation website for complete program guidelines and application instructions.
