The Arthur Vining Davis Foundations were organized in 1952 under a living trust established by Arthur Vining Davis. The foundations bear witness to Mr. Davis's successful corporate leadership acumen and his visionary, entrepreneurial spirit in philanthropy. The foundations' Private Higher Education program supports private colleges and universities with a primary academic mission in the liberal arts and sciences, rather than career or vocational studies. These institutions should exemplify academic quality and financial stability.
Through the program, grants of up to $300,000 will be awarded for leadership development for faculty, students, and senior leaders; interfaith literacy and leadership; environmental stewardship and sustainability in research, curriculum, and experience; student and faculty intellectual inquiry, including faculty development and support for student-faculty undergraduate research; and diversity, inclusion, and support for underserved education constituencies.
All private, four-year residential colleges and universities are eligible to apply. Those institutions undergoing a presidential transition must wait to submit a proposal until the new president has been in office for a year.
The foundation recommends applicants submit a Letter of Intent no later than October 15, 2017. Full applications must be received no later than November 1, 2017.
