Kresge Arts in Detroit Accepting Fellowship Applications

Emerging and established artists in the metro Detroit area are invited to apply for a 2018 Kresge Artist Fellowship. Fellowships are funded by the Kresge Foundation and administered by Kresge Arts in Detroit at the College for Creative Studies, with professional practice opportunities for the selected fellows provided by Creative Many Michigan.

Fellowships, which include a $25,000 awardand professional practice opportunities, are given to artists whose commitment to artistic achievement, in contemporary or traditional forms, is evident in the quality of their work.

In 2018, the program will award nine fellowships in the live arts (dance, choreography, theater directing, playwriting, performance art, and interdisciplinary work) and nine fellowships in film and music (film directing, screenwriting, animation, music composition, music performance, sound art, and interdisciplinary work) to artists living and working in the metro Detroit area (Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties).

In addition, a Gilda Award of $5,000 will be awarded to one emerging artist in each category. The award is named in honor of artist, CCS professor, and 2009 Kresge Artist Fellow Gilda Snowden (1954–2014).

Fellows are selected through a competitive review of all applications, a process performed by independent panels of distinguished local and national artists and arts professionals. Previous applicants are strongly encouraged to re-apply. New panels are convened each year, bringing fresh perspectives to the review process.

To be eligible, applicants must be 18 years or older and have resided in Macomb, Oakland or Wayne county for at least the two years prior to the application deadline (January 18, 2016 – January 18, 2018).

See the Kresge Arts in Detroit website for complete program guidelines, an FAQ, and application instructions.
