Community Chest Accepting Applications From Bergen County Nonprofits

Founded in 1933, the Community Chest supports nonprofit organizations working to benefit communities and people in need in eastern Bergen County, New Jersey. Each year, the Chest raises funds and allocates them to agencies that have demonstrated the capacity to provide services to local citizens. The organization also provides coordinating and planning services, serving as a bridge between agencies and organizations and investing in the stability and quality of the local service network.

1) Annual Grants: The Chest supports eligible nonprofit organizations with program funding and general operating grants. The Annual Grants program's priorities are service quality, high-quality program management, transparency, and documentation of impact. This year, the maximum Annual Grant award is $20,000, and the deadline to submit an application is March 2.

2) Harriet Tanner Impact Grants: Based on the outcomes of the Chest's Community Issues Summit in 2017, applications for the Harriet Tanner Impact Grant should focus on mental health, education, hunger, and services to seniors. These are one-time only grants, and renewals will not be considered. The maximum grant request is $25,000, and the deadline to submit an application is March 23.

To be eligible, applicants must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization under the Internal Revenue Service Code; have been incorporated for at least two years; and provide services to residents of eastern Bergen County in New Jersey.
