The Women's Sport Foundation is accepting applications for the 2018 Dorothea Deitz Endowed Memorial Scholarship program. The annual program was established in 2015 by the Dorothea Deitz Memorial Scholarship Fund board of trustees to encourage young women in New York to pursue careers in the physical education teaching profession. The scholarship is a memorial to Dorothea Deitz, an outstanding teacher, supervisor, and director of physical education for many years in Schenectady and on Long Island.
The program will provide a minimum scholarship of $1,000 per year, per recipient. It is anticipated that there will be up to nine awards. The scholarship will be limited to full-time incoming freshmen women and is non-renewable.
To be eligible, applicants must be a New York State female high school graduating senior who intends to major in physical education and is able to demonstrate financial need; has a minimum GPA of 3.0 or equivalent; and can show evidence of good character, physical education competence, participation in athletics, leadership qualities, and a record of community service.
See the WSF website for complete program guidelines, information about previous winners, and application instructions.
