Formed in 1977 as a separate nonprofit organization by the board of Smoky Mountain Mental Health, the Evergreen Foundation works to improve the lives of those with mental health, developmental delay, or substance abuse issues in the seven western counties of North Carolina (Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon, and Swain).
Activities funded by the foundation include infrastructure support for service networks; start-up and service provision grants; scholarships that help enhance the quality of the provider network; public awareness/education; and advocacy on behalf of consumers and the provider community.
Grant amounts typically range between $5,000 and $30,000.
To be eligible for a grant, applicants must be a nonprofit agency serving communities in one of the the seven counties of western North Carolina.
See the Evergreen Foundation website for complete program guidelines and application instructions.
