Emerging and established artists in the metro Detroit area are invited to apply for a 2019 Kresge Artist Fellowship. Fellowships are funded by the Kresge Foundation and administered by Kresge Arts in Detroit at the College for Creative Studies, with professional practice opportunities for the selected fellows provided by Creative Many Michigan.
In 2019, the program will award nine fellowships in the live performing arts and nine fellowships in film and music to artists living and working in the metro Detroit region (Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties).
Kresge Artist Fellowships include a $25,000 award and professional practice opportunities and are given to artists whose commitment to artistic achievement, in contemporary or traditional forms, is evident in the quality of their work.
In addition, a Gilda Award of $5,000 will be awarded to one emerging artist in each category. The award is named in honor of artist, CCS professor, and 2009 Kresge Artist Fellow Gilda Snowden (1954–2014).
1): Live Arts: This category focuses on live performing arts, including dance, choreography, theater directing, playwriting, performance art, and interdisciplinary work.
2) Film and Music: This category focuses on film directing, screenwriting, animation, music composition, music performance, sound art, and interdisciplinary work.
In each category, fellows are selected through a competitive review of all applications performed by independent panels of distinguished local and national artists and arts professionals. Previous applicants are strongly encouraged to re-apply. New panels are convened each year, bringing fresh perspectives to the review process.
To be eligible, applicants must be 18 years or older, a current legal resident of Macomb, Oakland or Wayne county, and have resided in Macomb, Oakland or Wayne county for at least two years prior to the application deadline.
The online application opens November 30, and applications must be received no later than January 17, 2019.
