Rasmuson Foundation Accepting Applications for Alaskan Artist Awards

The Rasmuson Foundation honors the merit and significance of a life dedicated to serious artistic exploration and growth through its Individual Artist Awards. The foundation believes that an artist's energy, ideas, and creative drive cannot bear fruit without periods of time devoted to experimentation, education, and personal reflection.

To that end, the foundation has created award programs designed to provide artists with the resources needed to concentrate and reflect on their work, to immerse themselves in a creative endeavor, and to experiment, explore, and develop their artistry more fully. It is the foundation's hope that these investments in individual artists will result in substantial contributions to the culture of Alaska, the vibrancy of its communities, and to art itself.

1) Project Awards: Awards of up to $7,500 will be made to emerging, mid-career, and mature artists for specific, short-term projects that have a clear benefit to the artist and the development of his/her work.

3) Artist Fellowships: Fellowship grants of $18,000 each will be awarded to mid-career or mature artists to allow them to focus their energy and attention over a one-year period on developing their creative work. The program awards grants in ten artistic disciplines that rotate on a two-year cycle. In 2019, choreography, crafts, folk and traditional arts, literary arts/scriptworks, and performance art will be considered.

Individual Alaskan artists at various stages of their career whose work is defined by excellence and reflects any of the diverse cultural and aesthetic communities in Alaska are eligible to apply.

The foundation will begin accepting applications on January 15, 2019.

See the Rasmuson Foundation website for complete program guidelines, profiles of past recipients, and application instructions.
