The "We Are All New York" (WAANY) Fellowship is a ten-month professional development and networking program for nonprofit, faith, government, and community leaders in the five boroughs of New York City. An initiative of the Center for Community Leadership at the Jewish Community Relations Council, the fellowship is dedicated to advancing diverse leaders in New York City and empowering them to become change agents able to strengthen their communities and the city at large.
Exposure to violence increases the likelihood of someone committing violence or facing violence-related fear and trauma. Youth in major cities are more likely than anyone to be exposed to violence and the aftermath. Through skill-building seminars and a community challenge project, WAANY fellows come to understand that, despite their different backgrounds, they have commonalities and become stronger leaders for their communities and organizations.
The 2018-2019 WAANY cohort is offering grants of at least $1,000 to anti-violence youth programs that assist and empower middle school youth (ages 10-14) to address, combat, and live free from domestic and/or gun violence.
To be eligible for a grant, programs must be based in New York City and be organized by a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit or an organization that is fiscally sponsored by a nonprofit organization. Applicants must also be able to show a history of successful engagement with the target demographic, a history of partnership with involved community organizations or institutions, and should promote leadership development through vehicles such as skill-building trainings, activism programs, or peer workshops.
All funds must be used for direct program costs and be used by December 31, 2019, and grantees must present a written report six months after receipt of the grant as well as post their successes on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube) throughout the duration of the program.
See the Center for Community Leadership at the Jewish Community Relations Council website for program details and application instructions.
