Visionary Resistance: Inside the Rapid-Response Model of the Emergent Fund

Providing quick access to general operating support is a key element of success for rapid-response funds designed to provide funding alternatives for communities facing injustice, a report from the Women Donors Network, in partnership with Solidaire, the Threshold Foundation, and the Democracy Alliance finds. The report, Visionary Resistance: Inside the Rapid-Response Model of the Emergent Fund (26 pages, PDF), evaluates the impact of the Emergent Fund, which the four organizations created following the 2016 election and, in its first year, awarded grants averaging $25,000 to fifty organizations, including those working to protect the rights of immigrants, women, LGBTQ people, and Muslim, Arab-American, and other communities of color. According to the evaluation, effective and agile rapid-response grantmaking requires designing shorter and less burdensome application processes and engaging the most directly affected communities in the fund's leadership and decision-making processes.
