Job Summary

The Development and Communications Coordinator works closely with the Development and Communications Director on all aspects of the fundraising and communications program at BNHC. Primary responsibilities are focused on grant writing, events, and external communications.

The Development and Communications Coordinator is responsible for identifying and pursuing grant opportunities and overseeing grants management. S/he plans and organizes health center events and assists with public relations, press releases, and social media.

Reports To

Development and Communications Director



  • Identifies, writes, and submit grants to support health center operations and capital needs. Researches foundations and corporations for potential grant funding. Works with health center staff to develop programs and budgets.
  • Manages grants management process. Ensures grant deliverables and timelines are tracked and that grants are expended in accordance with their terms.  Ensures that acknowledgements, reports, invoices, and applications are submitted to funders on time.

Individual Giving:

  • Assists Development and Communications Director with the development of an individual giving program. Develops relationships with donors. Manages donor database, eTapestry, and tracks and acknowledges gifts. 
  • Assists with annual fund email solicitations.

Events and Public Relations:

  • Works with administrative staff in planning and implementing BNHC community events.
  • Manages logistics, organizes volunteers, solicits sponsors, and tracks RSVPs.

Communications and Marketing:

  • Tells the story of the health center in factual and compelling fashion to gain attention, interest and support.
  • Manages social media accounts including Facebook and Twitter.
  • Ensures all social media is kept current and positive. 
  • Monitors online review platforms including Yelp and Google.
  • Oversees MD Valuate and ensures it meets BNHC's goals for reputation improvement.



  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, or equivalent field required. Master's degree a plus.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to health equity. A strong passion for the Health Center's mission is essential.
  • Familiarity with the greater Brockton community is helpful.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Must be able to set priorities, develop work plans, and monitor progress towards goals.
  • Analytical skills, attention to detail, time management, and planning skills are important. Finance and budget skills are a plus.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization.
  • Must be able to assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.
