Background

The Solidago Foundation is a small, progressive foundation that supports creative and collaborative grassroots-led solutions to deep-rooted systemic injustices. We engage in relational grantmaking, predominantly in low income communities and communities of color. Our current and final grantmaking strategy, as we prepare for our scheduled sunset in 2023, is, in collaboration with our 501(c)(4) affiliate, to support grassroots-led strategies to foster deep civic engagement and to advance models of progressive co-governance in targeted geographic areas.

Job Summary

The Solidago Foundation is seeking a part-time Administrative/Communications Associate to support the Foundation as we prepare for our scheduled sunset. The work of the Foundation in the coming years will include executing our final grant-making strategy; documenting and sharing our history, best practices, and enduring legacy; and helping connect grant recipients to additional sources of support for their work. The Administrative/Communications Associate will support the Managing Director and other Solidago Team members in advancing key aspects of this work.

Responsibilities

The Administrative/ Communications Associate will support the Managing Director and other Solidago team members in the following:

  • Basic office management;
  • Coordinating and documenting Executive Committee and Board activities, including scheduling meetings;
  • Implementing the communications strategy, with a focus on the website and social media;
  • Assisting with preparations for docket meetings, including, potentially, some communications with potential grant recipients;
  • Executing special projects and providing other general support as needed.

Qualifications

We are seeking someone who is passionate about grassroots organizing to transform unjust systems, especially organizing work led by frontline communities, and who has at least 3-5 years of experience doing and/or supporting this work.

The ideal candidate will be highly organized; be proactive about anticipating and creatively responding to needs that may arise; approach the work with alacrity; be enthusiastic about following a workplan and be able to meet deadlines consistently; be collaborative; be open and clear in communications with others; listen with the intention of learning; and be thoughtful about contributing to creating a work culture based on aligned vision, shared values, trust, and compassion. Experience doing administrative and communications work at a progressive organization focused on system change organizing is a strong plus. A high level of comfort with technology as well as some design skills will also be very helpful.

Compensation

We currently anticipate this position being approximately 20 hours per week, though it could potentially be more if there is a strong match between the organization’s needs and the selected candidates’ skills and interests. Benefits are included.

Requirements/Other

While most of the work is currently remote, the office is currently open on a voluntary basis and when the situation permits some in-office will likely resume, so candidates should be located in or willing to relocate to the Northampton area.
