Activities supported by the grant include the distribution of emergency supplies, financial assistance for individuals, and the provision of shelter, food, and comfort to those affected by a string of recent natural disasters, including wildfires across the West, hurricanes impacting the Gulf Coast, and a number of tropical storms. Since August, Red Cross volunteers have provided more than two million meals and snacks and overnight emergency lodging to more than seven hundred and twenty thousand people.
"The American Red Cross is playing an essential role in helping people whose lives have been upended this year by significant natural disasters, ranging from wildfires to hurricanes. In 2020, the impact of these disasters has been compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic," said Lilly Endowment vice president for community development Ronni Kloth. "We are pleased to support the American Red Cross' vast network of staff and volunteers who are helping people rebuild their lives and communities under extraordinary circumstances."
