The Blandin Foundation in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, has announced college scholarships totaling more than $1 million to three hundred and thirty-eight students from eleven Itasca-area schools.
Scholarships awarded through the foundation's long-running Education Grants program are available for postsecondary education, including certificate programs, community and technical college, and four-year colleges and universities. Students who graduate from the following schools are eligible to apply: Bigfork, Blackduck, Bug o Nay ge Shig, Deer River, Grand Rapids, Greenway, Hill City, Nashwauk-Keewatin, Northern Lights Community, Northome, and Northland - Remer. Home-schooled students who would have graduated from one of these schools also are eligible to apply. Qualified students receive up to $4,500 to continue their education.
"Our education grant program has a strong and important history with Itasca area communities," said Blandin Foundation CEO Kathleen Annette. "For sixty years we have worked with area students to help achieve their dreams of further education. Achievement of our young people was a great passion of Mr. Blandin's, as it is for the foundation today. We stand with each student as they pursue their educational goals."
