Blandin Foundation Awards $2.8 Million to Minnesota Nonprofits

The Blandin Foundation in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, has announced ninety-one grants totaling $2.8 million for projects and programs aimed at strengthening rural communities in the Grand Rapids and Itasca areas.

Recipients of the spring grants include the Itasca Economic Development Corporation, which was awarded $500,000 in support of its efforts to provide business loan coaching, community-wide business technology learning opportunities, and business recruitment and expansion services in the Itasca area; the Itasca County Sharing Fund, which will receive $200,000 to provide assistance with shelter, utilities, transportation, work clothing, and healthcare needs to Itasca-area residents; and the Boys & Girls Club of Leech Lake Area, which was awarded $70,000 for programs that provide leadership skills, academic tutoring, and mentoring to nearly a thousand youth between the ages of 13 and 18 in the Deer River area.

In addition, the foundation awarded $539,000 to KOOTASCA Community Action to provide programs and services to low- and moderate-income residents of Itasca and Koochiching County; $170,000 to the Myles Reif Performing Arts Center for operating support; and $375,000 to Itasca Community College for scholarships for local students.
