Alabama

With a focus om improving economic security and strengthening communities in Jefferson, Blount, St. Clair, and Walker counties, the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham has announced grants totaling more than $1.3 million to thirty-six organizations. Grants totaling $536,500 were awarded to help ensure that communities in the area are sustainable, livable, and vibrant, while a total of $807,100 was awarded to ensure that individuals and families are economically secure. Recipients include Family Promise of Birmingham, Urban Ministry, the Birmingham Black Radio Museum, and the Alabama Initiative for Independent Journalism.

California

In response to the Lilac Fire that scorched northern San Diego County in December, the San Diego Foundation has announced that it has raised more than $300,000 for recovery and rebuilding efforts through the San Diego Regional Disaster Fund. The total raised includes about two hundred online and text donations, as well as significant contributions from companies such as JPMorgan Chase & Co. and BD (Becton, Dickinson, and Company). In addition, Stone Brewing announced a December fundraising campaign in which $1 from the sale of every Stone Tangerine Express IPA pint or growler went to support fire recovery efforts.

Connecticut

The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven has appointed Marcella Nunez-Smith and Gregory J. Pepe to seven-year terms on its board of directors. Nunez-Smith is an associate professor at the Yale School of Medicine and the Yale School of Public Health, while Pepe heads up the healthcare law, corporate and business transactions, and alternative dispute resolution and mediation practice groups at Neubert, Pepe, and Monteith.

Indiana

The Community Foundation of Elkhart County has awarded $1.1 million in Key Initiative Grants to two area organizations, Inside Indiana Business reports. The recipients include the Goshen Parks and Recreation Department, which was awarded $900,000 for a multi-use pavilion project, and SPA Women's Ministry, which will allocate its $200,000 grant to the Building Hope capital campaign.

Kentucky

The Community Foundation of Louisville has announced that [give] 502, a giving circle of nearly forty young professionals and a component fund of the foundation, has awarded a grant of $20,000 to the Coalition for the Homeless in support of its Host Homes Pilot Project to End Youth Homelessness. Founded in 2013, [give] 502 has made four grants totaling $80,000 since its inception. Recipients of the group’s previous grants are Cabbage Patch Settlement House (2014), Paws with Purpose (2015), and the Americana Community Center (2016).

Missouri

The Rural Ozarks Health Initiative (ROHI), a partnership between the Community Foundation of the Ozarks and the Missouri Foundation for Health, has awarded a $150,000 grant over three years to the Cassville Community Foundation for a project that will address the shortage of mental health professionals in rural communities in the region, the Cassville Democrat reports. To be matched on a one-to-one basis by local organizations, including Mercy Hospital Cassville, Mercy Hospital Aurora, Mercy Hospital Mountain View, the Aurora Area Community Foundation, Mercy Health Foundation, and Clark Mental Health, the funding will enable Mercy Hospital to expand its network of trained mental health providers into rural areas of Barry, Lawrence, and Shannon counties via Web-based technologies.

Ohio

The Dayton Foundation has announced Nan-c Lynn Moss as its new vice president of grants and donor relations. An active volunteer, Moss has served on the board of the African-American Community Fund of the Dayton Foundation and is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, and Operation Crossroads African Alumni Network.

Oregon

The Oregon Community Foundation has awarded grants to nonprofit organizations in Albany, Lebanon, Sweet Home, and Corvallis, the Albany Democrat-Herald reports. Recipients include Signs of Victory Ministries, Friends of Albany Public Library, the Center Against Rape and Domestic Violence, and the Marys River Watershed Council.

Vermont

The Vermont Community Foundation has announced that its Northeast Kingdom Fund has awarded grants totaling $63,668 to twenty-one organizations in Orleans, Essex, and Caledonia counties. Recipients include Catamount Film and Arts, Green Mountain Farm-to-School, NEK Kids on the Move, and VTDigger.org. The fund was established in 2011 by the foundation and local partners as a permanent philanthropic resource for the people and communities of the region.

Washington

The Seattle Foundation has announced grants totaling $371,000 to twenty-four organizations working to safeguard and advance the safety, security, constitutional, and human rights of the region’s most vulnerable communities. Awarded through the foundation's Resilience Fund, the second round of grants boosts the fund’s grantmaking total in 2017 to $930,000. Recipients of grants of up to $20,000 include LGBTQ Allyship, the Gender Justice League, Open Arms Perinatal Services, and the Puget Sound Training Center.
