Officials of the Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management have announced the launch of the Leader to Leader Institute, a new 501(c)(3) nonprofit institution that will work to further the foundation's mission of strengthening the leadership of the social sector. Effective January 1, 2003, the Drucker Foundation will transfer all its ongoing activities to the new organization.
The Institute will build on the legacy of the Drucker Foundation by pursuing its mission in three primary areas: developing social sector leaders of character and competence; forging cross-sector partnerships that deliver social sector results; and providing leadership resources that engage and inform social sector leaders. Francis Hesselbein, who chaired the Drucker Foundation's board of governors and served as its founding president and CEO from 1990 to 2000, will serve as the Institute's chairperson.
"Twelve years ago, Peter F. Drucker inspired our vision of an organization focused on the leadership and management of the vital social sector," said Hesselbein. "Through that organization, we made an essential contribution to those institutions and, in turn, to their profound impact on communities and society. This has been done and the continuing responsibilities will now reside with Leader to Leader, which will take Peter Drucker's groundbreaking work forward into the future."
Rob Johnston, who joined the Drucker Foundation in 1991 and was appointed president of the foundation in March 2001, will lead the Institute as president and CEO.
