Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, has announced a $6 million grant from the Lilly Endowment in support of a professional development and education program for leaders in church and nonprofit ministries.
The grant will support the Leadership Education at Duke Divinity program, which encourages a theological vision of leadership and supports Christian institutions — including seminaries, denominations, and other nonprofit organizations — in their efforts to develop current and future leaders. The grant also will fund the expansion of other programs offered by the divinity school, including Foundations of Christian Leadership, an intensive two-week seminar for institutional leaders.
"The Lilly Endowment has demonstrated a magnificent commitment to programs at Duke that develop leaders who work to strengthen communities," said Duke president Richard Brodhead. "We are grateful that this grant will allow Leadership Education at Duke Divinity School to expand its successful support for ministry and nonprofit leaders."
