An estimated $2.47 billion was raised in the United States during the ninth annual GivingTuesday, the event's organizers report.
According to the GivingTuesday Data Commons, a network of more than seventy contributing partners and forty global data labs, online and offline giving for the December 1 event jumped 25 percent, from $1.97 billion in 2019, while the estimated number of people participating increased 29 percent, to 34.8 million. The estimates are based on data from ActBlue, Benevity, Bloomerang, Charity Navigator, Classy, the Combined Federal Campaign, Cybergrants, Donately, DonorPerfect, DonorsChoose, every.org, Facebook, Fidelity Charitable, Firespring, Give Lively, Givebutter, GiveCampus, GiveGab, Givly, Givsly, Global Impact, GlobalGiving, GoFundMe, HelloFund, iATS Payments, iModules, Keela, Kindful, Mightycause, Movember, the National Philanthropic Trust, NationBuilder, Neon One, Network for Good, PayPal, Philanthropi, Pledgeling, Qgiv, Salsa, the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, Tiltify, and Vanguard Charitable.
According to the NonProfit Times, more than 1.9 million people raised over $135 million via Facebook and Instagram, including $7 million in matching funds from Facebook over the last two weeks, while the DonorPerfect platform processed 233,000 donations totaling $55 million, up 65 percent and 37 percent, respectively, from 2019. Mobile fundraising platform Classy reports it processed nearly three hundred thousand donations totaling $37.9 million — almost double the $19.4 million it processed in 2019 — including $5.2 million for the Salvation Army. In addition, school fundraising platform GiveCampus processed more than $12.5 million in online and offline donations for over four hundred colleges and P-12 schools.
In May, GivingTuesday launched #GivingTuesdayNow, raising more than $503 million in online donations for COVID-19 relief efforts in the U.S.
