Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has announced a $4 million matching grant from the Hall-Perrine Foundation in support of a capital campaign to fund construction of a new athletic complex.
The 22-acre complex will serve as a permanent home for six of the university's fifteen intercollegiate athletic teams — including baseball, softball, track and field, and soccer — enrich campus life, increase student engagement, and enhance intramural programs. To receive the full amount of the grant, the university must raise $7 million, of which $1 million already has been pledged. The total projected cost for the complex is $15 million.
"This athletic complex is a large-scale project that requires significant donor support," said Norm Nielsen, the university's interim president. "We thank the individuals at the Hall-Perrine Foundation who saw the value in this project and wanted to help Mount Mercy continue growing and advancing."
