Hearst Foundations Award $1.5 Million to California Nonprofits

The Hearst Foundations has awarded grants totaling $1.5 million in support nonprofit organizations and programs in California, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The ten grants will support programs and organizations working across a range of areas from space science and arts research to children's dental care. Grant recipients include Pepperdine University , which was awarded $300,000 in support of its Linking Entertainment, Media and Culture initiative; Dientes Community Dental Care in Santa Cruz, which received $50,000 for a new children's dental center; and the California Rangeland Trust in Sacramento, which was awarded $125,000 for fund development, marketing, and outreach efforts.
In addition, the foundation awarded $100,000 to Poets & Writers in New York City for readings and writing workshops across California; $250,000 to the California Science Center Foundation in Los Angeles to help with construction of the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center and assist with a challenge grant; and $250,000 to the University of Southern California in support of the Hearst Fellowship Award at the Eli and Edythe Broad Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research.
