The Bush Foundation has announced the appointment of ERIK TAKESHITA as director of its Community Creativity Portfolio, a position responsible for programming around arts-based community development efforts in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and the twenty-three Native nations that share the same geography. Takeshita most recently served as director of creative placemaking at Local Initiatives Support Corporation and before that served as a senior policy aide to the mayor of Minneapolis and led an art center in Honolulu. Currently, Takeshita serves on several community boards and commissions and is recognized for managing high-impact initiatives that express a community’s unique culture through the arts. Takeshita was awarded a Bush Leadership Fellowship in 2005.

Jewish Federation & Family Services has announced the appointment of LAUREN GAVSHON, currently its director of clinical services, as interim president and CEO. Before joining JFFS, Gavshon held top leadership positions at the John Henry Foundation and Miramar Health and spearheaded the construction of Mandel House, the first Jewish residential home in Orange County for adults with special needs.  Gavshon will replace SHALOM ELCOTT, who will continue to serve the organization as strategic advisor to the board chair.

ERNEST J. WILSON III has been elected to the board of the California Wellness Foundation, USC Annenberg reports. Wilson, dean of USC's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, also heads the school's Third Space, an initiative that helps create a talent pool of next-generation leaders in media, communications, entertainment, and business. Previously, he served in several federal government roles, including director of international programs and resources at the National Security Council; director of USAID's Policy and Planning Unit; deputy director of the Global Information Infrastructure Commission; and an adviser on President Obama's transition team. He also has served as a board member and board chair for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. "Dr. Wilson's distinguished career in communications, public policy, information technology and international relations, coupled with his history of promoting diversity and inclusion, makes him a great fit as a Cal Wellness trustee," said Judy Belk, the foundation's president and CEO. "He understands the importance of leveling the playing field to advance the health and wellness of all Californians."

The Proteus Fund and its sister (c)(4) organization the Proteus Action League have announced the elections of HELENA HUANG and RICHARD BURNS to the Proteus board and NATASHA MINSKER to the PAL board. Huang, recently executive director of Oregon Voices, earlier served as a program manager at the Open Society Foundation and the JEHT Foundation. Burns, a veteran leader in LGBT philanthropy, has served as interim executive director of PENCIL, the Funding Exchange, Funders for LGBTQ Issues, and the Stonewall Community Foundation. Minsker, a nationally respected leader in criminal justice reform, is director of the ACLU of California Center for Advocacy & Policy.

In other news, Coney Island USA has announced the appointment of EARL LAWRENCE TUCKER as executive director. Tucker has a background as an arts management consultant and has a performance background in three disciplines — violin, voice, and dance. Recently interim executive director at the Martina Arroyo Foundation, he has held top programming and development positions at several arts institutions, including Trinity Concerts Inc., Wave Hill, the Fund for the Borough of Brooklyn, and the Jamaica Arts Center. He also has taught on the faculty of Oklahoma University and the Borough of Manhattan Community College and served on the music panel of the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts Presenting Panel, the Program Development Fund Panel of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Bronx Council on the Arts Advisory Panel on Tourism.
