The gift includes $5 million to establish an endowment for the program, with the remaining $15 million set aside as a challenge grant that must be matched by gifts from other zoo supporters by June 30, 2020. In honor of the couple's support, the program, which connects millions of zoo guests to wildlife and promotes the zoo's fight against animal extinctions globally, will be renamed the Rady Ambassadors program.
"Evelyn and I are proud of all that the San Diego Zoo does in our community," said Ernest Rady, who joined the Giving Pledge in 2018. "It is a magnet for tourism and boosts the quality of life for all residents. By making this commitment, we want what is so special about the zoo to be in place forever."
