The TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable arm of TD Bank, has announced an expansion of its annual Housing for Everyone grant program.
To help keep renters stay in affordable housing during the COVID-19 pandemic, the amount awarded through the program will be increased to $4.9 million, from $3.75 million last year, with grants to thirty-two local housing nonprofits supporting direct relief and a range of services for families and individuals who rent, including the elderly, new Americans, veterans, the disabled, women, and youth. According to the foundation, nearly one-third of renters work in the food, entertainment, and retail industries, the sectors most affected by the pandemic, with the service worker industry comprising an additional 23 percent of the renter labor force.
"TD Bank represents one of few funders working to support affordable housing efforts for families and individuals who rent," said TD Charitable Foundation director Paige Carlson-Heim. "We wanted to increase our support given the extra burden created by the pandemic."
