The U.S. Soccer Foundation is committed to helping young people in underserved communities embrace an active and healthy lifestyle while nurturing their personal growth through trained coach-mentors and partners with local communities to create long-term cost-effective initiatives that meet communities’ youth-development needs and provide safe environments where kids can thrive.
The foundation is currently accepting applications for its Safe Places to Play grants program. Through the program, grants will be awarded to cover the cost of lighting, irrigation, construction, surfacing, and/or other enhancements that transform abandoned courts, empty schoolyards, vacant lots, and the like into state-of-the-art soccer fields for kids.
Grants of up to $15,000 will be awarded for irrigation projects, of up to $25,000 for single-field projects, and of up to $50,000 for multi-field lighting projects.
Projects must be completed within a year of the grant award.
Eligible applicants must be a nonprofit entity, own or hold a ten-plus year lease on the field space, and at the time of application have 50 percent of the needed funding in hand.
The foundation will begin accepting LOIs on September 3. Letters of Intent are due by September 27. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal by October 4, 2019.
