The New York City-based William T. Grant Foundation is accepting applications for its newly launched Youth Service Capacity-Building Grants program. Through the program, general operating support grants of $60,000 will be awarded in support of activities aimed at strengthening the organizational infrastructure of nonprofit organizations in the five boroughs of New York City that provide direct services to young people between the ages of 5 and 25. The long-term goal of the program is to help build stronger, more stable youth-serving organizations that can reduce inequality in youth outcomes.
Capacity-building goals of organizations applying for a grant may include financial management, board recruitment and development, human resource management, fundraising, strategic planning, information technology, leadership development, communications, evaluation systems, or other compelling needs. In addition to providing grant support, the foundation will secure technical assistance to assist grantees in successfully implementing their capacity-building plans.
Three new Youth Service Capacity-Building Grants will be awarded through the program annually.
Through this call, the foundation seeks to target funding to communities that would most benefit. Given the focus on reducing inequality in youth outcomes, eligibility is limited to organizations that meet at least one of the following criteria: currently provide direct youth services in one of the ten community districts identified as having the highest community risk to child well-being by the Citizen’s Committee for Children; have well-defined existing programming tailored specifically to Mexican-descent or LGBTQ youth; and/or have leaders (executive director or CEO) who are people of color and/or LGBTQ individuals.
In addition to these criteria, eligible applicants must be youth-serving community-based nonprofit organizations based in any of the five boroughs of New York City whose staff have direct programmatic contact with youth at the point of service. Organizations must also have an operating budget of between $250,000 and $1 million.
All applications must be received by 3:00 p.m. EST on September 30.
See the William T. Grant Foundations website for eligibility details, selection criteria, and application guidelines.
