Founded in 1920, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) advocates for high-quality mathematics teaching and learning for each and every student.
To advance this mission, NCTM awards grants to increase understanding and expertise in fostering support of multi-language development in the teaching of mathematics in pre-k-12 schools. Grants of up to $4,000 will be awarded to cover the cost of honoraria and expenses for consultants, materials, substitute time during the school day, teacher stipends after the school day, and/or conference or workshop registrations.
The proposed project must explicitly support the implementation of equitable and rigorous mathematics instruction that incorporates student languages and cultures in the teaching of math. The proposed project should specifically address the development of classroom materials with a consultant who has expertise in both the teaching of math and the teaching of language, and/or the purchase of materials for use in implementing professional learning toward the above stated goal. (Funds may not be used for staff travel or equipment.)
To be eligible, applicant schools must have at least one current NCTM member and one current TODOS member who teaches at the school.
See the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics website for complete program guidelines and application instructions.
