Since 2004, Many Hands has granted more than $1.6 million to nonprofit organizations serving women, children, and families in need in the Washington, D.C., area.
The group currently make four grants a year, one in each of our four focus areas: education, health, housing, and job readiness. Of the four annual grantees, one receives a Many Hands $100,000 Impact Grant; the other three will receive Many Hands Partner Grants, the value of which is determined by the total amount raised that year. In 2019, each Partner Grant was $58,500.
Applications are due by November 15. After the application deadline has passed, Many Hands will review all applications to ensure that applicants meet its eligibility requirements and have applied to the appropriate focus area. Applicants will be notified of their status by January 15, 2020.
Applications that pass the initial screening will be forwarded to the group’s focus area committees, which will review applications from late January into March. Based on its review, each focus area committee will select several organizations for site visits. Site visits usually take place in March and early April. Organizations not selected for a site visit will be notified by mid-March.
Following the site visits, each focus area committee will select its semifinalists. Semifinalists will be asked to submit additional financial information for review by an accounting firm acting on behalf of Many Hands. Organizations that have received a site visit but are not selected as semifinalists will be notified by mid-April.
Upon completion of the financial review, each of the focus area committees will select one applicant as its finalist and notify the other semifinalists of their status. All four finalist organizations will receive a Many Hands grant.
In mid-May, the four finalist organizations will have the opportunity to make brief presentations and answer questions from Many Hands members at the group’s annual meeting. Members will then vote to determine which organization will receive the $100,000 Impact Grant. Partner Grants will be awarded to the three remaining finalists.
Many Hands will take written questions about its eligibility requirements, focus areas, and application procedures through October 15. Questions can be emailed to Many Hands at firstname.lastname@example.org. Questions will be aggregated and responses posted on the Many Hands website on October 21.
