The Anchorage-based Rasmuson Foundation honors the merit and significance of a life dedicated to serious artistic exploration and growth. The foundation believes that no matter what his/her career stage, an artist needs time devoted to experimentation, education, and reflection. With these guiding principles in mind, the foundation offers two types of award for artists and artist groups or collaboratives living and working in Alaska:
Project Grants — Awards of $7,500 for specific, short-term projects that have a clear benefit to an individual or group’s artistic growth and development. (A full description of the project award can be found in the How to Apply section on the foundation’s website.)
Artists Fellowships — Awards of $18,000 for individuals or groups at a mid- or mature artistic career stage so that they can focus their energy and attention for a one-year period on developing their creative work. (A full description of the project award can be found in the How to Apply section on the foundation’s website.)
Applicants may apply for either a Project Award or Fellowship. An individual may only apply once per application cycle, either as an individual or group/collaborative.
To be eligible, applicants (including all group collaborators) must be a full-time Alaska resident/s living in the state for the past two years (and at the time of the application) and remain a resident for the duration of the grant period. If the applicant was out of the state for more than a hundred and eighty days in 2019, s/he must provide an explanation of why. If the applicant will be out of the state for more than a hundred and eighty days in 2020, s/he must provide an explanation of why. Applicants must be at least 18 years or older at the time of application and currently be producing work. Past Individual Artist Award recipients who received their award prior to 2017 and who have no overdue reports are eligible to apply.
Applications are due by Monday, March 2, 2020. Applications may be submitted by mail, delivered in person, or online at www.rasmuson.org. Applications submitted online must be completed by 11:59 p.m. Alaska Time (AST); applications delivered in person must be received by 5:00 p.m. AST; mailed applications must be postmarked by March 2. Late applications will not be considered.
Rasmuson Foundation staff will provide a draft review of the application if submitted online by 11:59 p.m. AST on Friday, February 14, 2020. The draft review will primarily focus on completeness of the submission and not assess the content of application.
