The James R. Thorpe Foundation was established in 1974 to continue the philanthropic efforts of James Thorpe, who maintained a lifelong commitment to education and personally helped many individuals obtain both secondary and college degrees. Today the foundation continues to support educational and youth-serving organizations in the Minneapolis area, along with many arts and social service nonprofits.
To advance this mission, the foundation welcomes applications for its youth program. Grants will be awarded to organizations located in and serving the City of Minneapolis and its western suburbs working to create opportunities for middle school and high school age youth to achieve productive and independent lives. The foundation supports in-school and out-of-school time programs that encourage character development, support academic success, and foster social and emotional well-being, as well as arts programs that incorporate youth development goals.
To be eligible, applicants must be tax exempt as defined by section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and have an operating budget of $3 million or less.
See the James R. Thorpe Foundation website for complete program guidelines and application instructions.
