South Carolina Arts Commission Invites Applications for Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Initiative

With a commitment to excellence across the spectrum of South Carolina cultures and forms of expression, the South Carolina Arts Commission pursues its public charge to develop a thriving arts environment for all residents of the Palmetto State.

To that end, SCAC invites applications for its Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Initiative, which seeks to support mentor-artists interested in passing on their artistic and cultural knowledge to qualified apprentices and provide apprentices with an opportunity to advance their artistic and cultural knowledge to a higher level so that they may continue to pursue the art form beyond their apprenticeship. Through the program, grants of $2,000 will be awarded to the mentor-artist and $500 to the apprentice. Priority will be given to projects focused on traditional arts considered to be endangered.

To be eligible, applicants must be a legal resident of the United States who has been a permanent resident of South Carolina for at least a year prior to the application date and throughout the grant period. In addition, the mentor-artist and the apprentice must belong to the same community/folk group.

See the South Carolina Arts Commission website for complete program guidelines and application instructions.
