Sustainable Arts Foundation Invites Applications From Artists, Writers With Children

The mission of the Sustainable Arts Foundation is to provide financial awards to parents pursuing creative work.

To that end, the foundation invites applications to its individual artist program. Through the program, unrestricted cash grants of $5,000 will be awarded to up to twenty artists and writers with children under the age of 18. Because awards are based on applicants’ demonstrated excellence within a discipline, the foundation recommends that artists or writers who are beginning their creative careers not apply.

Writers may apply in one of the following categories: Creative Nonfiction; Early and Middle Grade Readers; Fiction; Graphic Novel/Graphic Memoir; Illustrated Children's Books; Illustrated Children's Books (Text Only); Long Form Journalism; Playwriting; Poetry; and Young Adult Fiction. The foundation will not consider portfolios of academic writing, self-help books, motivational writing, cookbooks, travel, and/or other kinds of guidebooks.

Visual artists may apply in one of the following categories: Book Arts; Drawing; Fiber Arts and Textiles; Illustration; Installation; Mixed Media; Painting; Photography; Printmaking or Sculpture.

The application will be available online on February 1, 2020.

See the Sustainable Arts Foundation website for complete program guidelines, application instructions, and a list of previous awardees.
