The James R. Thorpe Foundation was established in 1974 to continue the philanthropic efforts of James Thorpe, who maintained a lifelong commitment to education and personally helped many individuals obtain both secondary and college degrees.
The foundation currently is welcoming proposals from organizations located in and serving the City of Minneapolis and its western suburbs working to foster the vital aging of seniors through services that help them remain independent and social opportunities that reduce social isolation. The foundation has a focus on the needs of economically disadvantaged seniors and the frail elderly. General operating and program support grants will be awarded.
To be eligible, applicants must be tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and have an operating budget of $3 million or less.
See the James R. Thorpe Foundation website for complete program guidelines and application instructions.
