Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation Invites Applications for Community Health Grants

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation supports a diverse range of activities and projects, including support focused on controlling the rising costs of healthcare through evaluation, as well as research and demonstration projects.

To help advance this mission, the foundation welcomes applications for its Community Health Matching Grant Program. Through the program, grants of up to $25,000 a year for two years will be awarded to nonprofit community organizations working to develop, implement, and evaluate new approaches to healthcare issues.

Proposals will be reviewed according to the following criteria: project sustainability, potential for replication, significance and risk-level of the target population, and level of impact on Michigan health and health care.

Matching funds are required based on the size of the organization’s budget as well as the percent of Medicaid and uninsured patients served. For nonprofits with a budget of less than $10 million, if less than 30 percent of the organization's patient population is on Medicaid or uninsured, the foundation requires a 25 percent match; and if more than 30 percent of the organization's patient population is on Medicaid or uninsured, the foundation requires a 10 percent match. For nonprofits with a budget of more than $10 million, if less than 30 percent of the organization's patient population is on Medicaid or uninsured, the foundation requires a 60 percent match; and if more than 30 percent of the organization's patient population is on Medicaid or uninsured, the foundation requires a 25 percent match.

To be eligible, applicants must be a nonprofit organization based in Michigan.
